The food
-
Where does the food come from?
Six Italian regions: Puglia, Liguria, Lombardia, Toscana, Umbria, Sicilia. Each region for what it does best. Pasta from Umbria. Pesto from Liguria. Pistachios and almonds from Sicilia. Biscotti from Toscana. Hot chocolate from Lombardia. Jarred vegetables and preserves from Puglia.
-
What does "imported direct" mean?
We work with the family makers in each region and bring their products to the United States without reformulation. The recipe in the jar is the recipe sold in Italy. Most Italian food on US shelves has been reformulated for the export market: sweeter, blander, dried faster, sealed in plastic that flattens what was alive in the original. Ours hasn't.
-
Are the products organic, non-GMO, or certified?
Where applicable, products carry their Italian and EU certifications: DOP, IGP, biologico, Non-GMO Project Verified. The certifications appear on each product page and on the packaging.
-
I have an allergy. Where can I see what's in the products?
Each product page lists allergens and full ingredients. If you have a question we haven't answered, write to us before you order.
-
How long is the shelf life?
It varies by product. Sealed shelf life is on the package. Pasta keeps for a long time. Preserves and nut creams should be refrigerated after opening and finished within a few weeks.
Cooking and storage
-
How do I cook the pasta?
Boil in generously salted water. Each pasta page lists the cooking time for that shape. Finish in the sauce for the last minute, with a spoonful of starchy pasta water. Bronze-die pasta has a rough surface that holds sauce, so use less than you think.
-
Should I refrigerate after opening?
Nut creams and preserves: yes. Pasta and dry biscotti: no. Specifics are on each label and product page.
-
My pistachio cream (or hazelnut cream) is separating in the jar. Is it bad?
No. The nut oils are separating from the solids, which happens when a cream isn't held together by emulsifiers. Stir before each use.
Gifts and bulk
-
Do you offer gift baskets?
Yes. The Sapori Italiani basket and the Classic Pasta Menu are in stock year-round. Find them in the Gift Baskets collection.
-
Can I include a note with a gift order?
Not at the moment. We're working on it.
-
Do you do corporate or wholesale orders?
Yes. Email contact@eatgusta.com with what you have in mind and we'll work it out.
